Let me start off by saying this is a purely bias post based on the fact that I am a Montrealer and a proud one at that. This past Sunday the Alouettes took on the BC Lions in Montreal at the Olympic Stadium; a.k.a. the big O. Unfortunately I was not able to watch the whole game. Got home sometime during the third quarter. Montreal already had a huge lead in the game. They have a tendency to slack off in the forth quarter. I can’t lie about that. This time was different as they got another touchdown and sealed the deal by beating the Lions 56-18!

Soon after the eastern finals, the west got their game started. The Calgary Stampeders played in Saskatchewan against the Roughriders. I had no interest in watching this game. I only hoped the Stampeders won because it would have made for sweet revenge. In 2008, the Grey Cup was in Montreal and the two teams involved were the Alouettes and the Stampeders. Last year the Stamps stripped Montrealers of a home win. Well, I shouldn’t say they stripped us. We just did not have it in us to win. This year, the Grey Cup is taking place on Sunday, November 29TH in Calgary. Too bad the Stampeders are not even playing haha. Being a Montrealer who had to live in Calgary for five years against my will, I have a love/hate relationship with the city. (After I graduated high school I moved to Calgary because my mother was transfered there a year prior. She allowed me to stay in Montreal to graduate with my friends.) While residing in cow town I met a few good friends that I still keep in contact with so that’s the love part. The hate part (no offense to Calgarians), it just was not my kind of city. Smaller, less multi-cultural, nothing special about the food and more but I won’t go any further.

Oh well, regardless I will be having my football food ready and watching the Grey Cup on TSN HD this Sunday. It’s been a while since Montreal has had a parade due to a sports team winning. I know a lot of people say you can’t compare the CFL to NFL and I agree. There is more money in the NFL. What do you expect? Our soccer team, the Montreal Impact took the grand prize this year. Now it is time for the Alouettes! Wonder if the Habs can do it too? Is that too much to ask for?

Over the last few years the debate about vaccinations has been increasing. Since the H1N1 virus showed up out of no where during the summer, vaccines are what everyone is talking about. I’m not against every single vaccine there is out there. What I am against is taking all these shots and not knowing what the side effects are. I guess you can figure out I’m not getting the H1N1 vaccine. I KNOW of too many “ingredients” in it that make me say no. Mercury and others. If you don’t believe me, ask to read the insert that comes with the shot. Some people have become paralyzed after taking the shot, some violently ill. 10, 20 years from now, what kind of side effects will develop? I’m the kind of person that ask a lot of questions. If I can not get any logical answers, something is not right. Although I am asthmatic I refuse to get the shot. All you see are the few people that die from this swine flu. Did you know more people die of the regular seasonal flu than this Swine flu?

A couple of weeks ago, here in Canada they started opening immunization facilities. People were lining up for hours! Hours! Guess who was surprised? The government. Why were they so shocked when the media was blowing it out of proportion? Plus the health minister was saying there would be enough vaccines for every Canadian. Yet by the end of last week, the country was running out of the vaccine? Preposterous! The “demand” was created. When the supply got short, it sent people into a panic. Therefor creating even more of a demand. The same thing happens every Christmas with whatever the hottest toy is that year. It is the same thing!

If I had children, I don’t know if my thinking would be different. When it is just you that is one thing but when you have children, you do and think differently in regards to everything. I am not speaking for those with children. I can not tell you not to give your child the vaccine. Further more I can not tell anyone what to do. All I am suggesting is to think for yourself and do your own research. Don’t take what you read in your newspapers or on TV as the Gospel. Eat as healthy as you can. Take your vitamins D, C and A. Plus omega 3’s. Get sufficient sleep and exercise. Two weeks ago I was sick. Not the flu. Only a bad cold. I believe because I have been on the previous regimen that I mentioned for the last few months, it helped to build up my immune system. You know the stages you go through when you have a cold? Well I went through them but a lot quicker than normal.

Please do not take part in the hype. Be aware of what is going on and do what YOU feel is best for you and your family.

Before you read the rest of this post, I think I should write some kind of disclaimer.

This post is meant to make you think outside of the box. It is controversial and thought provoking. It has nothing to do with taking sides, any particular religion or faith. If you are wondering why you never heard of this story before it is because the mainstream media did not want you to know. CNN’s Larry King Live was interested in having Charlie Sheen on the show to discuss the questions of 9/11. However, they could not find anyone from opposing opinions to come on the show and debate the issues with Charlie Sheen. The dialogue you are about to read has NOT happen for real. It has been written by Charlie Sheen as a way to get the public’s attention. It was released on September 11, 2009. Whether you believe the catastrophe of 9/11 was an inside job or not, you can not say many questions are still not answered. Many of the victims and their families would like to see the investigation re-opened. After you read this I’d like to know your opinions. Let the discussion begin!

It is a place where I will be posting videos of products that I actually use and love. Seeing is believing. Instead of just telling you about it in my blog I wanted to have a more one-on-one experience with you. More videos will follow in the near future since there are different catalogues that come out often. As soon as I’m able to send e-brochures, those that don’t live in the same city will be able to shop Avon with me.

Yep, Thanksgiving. It’s amazing how so many Americans did not know our Thanksgiving is not the same day. More than a month difference. If this is news to you, then you just learned something . In this edition of Motivational Mondays, I want to focus on the positive things and people in each of your lives.

Think about this. No matter what your situation is at any given point, there is always someone else in a situation worse off than you.

What that means is, do not take for granted the good that is in your life at the present moment. It can be as simple as being thankful for the ability to breathe every day. Good health, financial security, family, friends, a good education, clean water. The list can go on. When you are thankful for what you already have, it can give you motivation to continue living life. It is all about your mentality. If you change your mindset into a more positive one, you open yourself for more good to come in.

Here is something I would like you to try. Every day for the next month. Write down 2 things you are grateful for. Keep this piece of paper and make a list. After a month, you will see how many blessings you have been fortunate to receive.

A few quotes I want to share with you.

Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action. - W.J. Cameron

If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one. - Mother Teresa

Celebrate the happiness that friends are always giving, make every day a holiday and celebrate just living! - Amanda Bradley

The well known Avon lady has been around for decades. Starting out doing door-to-door sales in your neighbourhood. I always associated Avon with my grandparents’s generation. My grandmothers would always buy the lipsticks, those talc powders you spread on your bed before you go to sleep. Don’t forget the Skin-So-Soft brand of bath oils. They would be great in the summer as a mosquito repellent. Haha those were the days. My mom recently became a representative. She was looking for something part-time to do. The more I looked into it myself, the more I thought, “hey I could do this.”

Avon as a company has changed a lot. They still have their staple brands but at the same time, they have kept up with the times. I’m sure they had to or else they would not be in business anymore. They have a wide array of beauty products. Makeup for many different skin colours. As a black woman, I had concern about that but they proved me wrong. I was impressed. Avon also has well known celebrity spokespersons to represent them. Right now it is Reese Witherspoon. She has a perfume called In Bloom. I smelled it last night at an Avon meeting and it’s very floral but not too overwhelming. This being the holiday shopping season, there are so many items to choose from. The 3 packs of dip are scrumptious. They sell clothes, shoes, jewelry and accessories. Products for dogs too. A line named Mark is great for teenage girls and young women in their twenties. I was looking at everything the other night and thinking if there are so many products that I would buy myself then I’m sure a lot more people like me are out there. I’m pushing thirty myself. In my opinion there is something for everyone.

I’m really excited about getting my own business going. Who would of thought I would be an Avon lady? The best part is that Avon is online now! So I can send my clients from all over the world an e-brochure and they can shop through me. I made a YouTube channel where I’m going to be posting videos of the products I use from Avon or new promotions. So you can always keep up to date with me that way too. http://YouTube.com/melanie4avon . If you would like a FREE consultation and you’re in the Montreal area, you can email me at melanie4avon@live.caIf you’d like an e-brochure to shop with me, please don’t hesitate to contact me through that same address. You could start your own business too with Avon and start accumulating your own income. Once again, contact me via email.

Stay tuned to my videos on YouTube!

Earlier this week my faith in people was restored. Seven years ago, my mother and I moved back to our hometown. At the time, life was a little crazy to say the least. We had to put a lot of our stuff in storage. Including photo albums, my high school years books, Wall art and other things. At one point my mother called the company to see if she could at least get our personal belongings out of storage. The sentimental items. We both could care less about any of other other stuff. Didn’t have enough money at the time to get everything. The woman my mother spoke with at the time was a real bitch. One of those people who love their job too much and whatever little authority they have. She did not want to reason or compromise. It was all or nothing. So after years of being upset that I was put in the situation of losing all my childhood memories and pictures, I decided to let it go. It was not worth it to resent my own flesh and blood. It took time but, I eventually came to terms with the fact that I would never see my pictures and yearbooks again.

That was until earlier this week. A man from the moving company called my mother out of the blue. Asked if she still wanted to get her personal items. There was three boxes of it. The rest of the stuff they sold. He did not want to throw these boxes away until he at least tried to contact the owners. When I got the good news, I almost cried . It was as if I was getting a big part of my past back. Old pictures of all four of my grandparents. Cousins, aunts and uncles. Some family members who have since past on. Both my mom and I never thought we would get that kind of call after so many years have past. It was a good feeling to know there there are still good people out there. We met with the man a couple of days later. He is truly a sincere person. Made a note to self to say a prayer for him and his family that same night. Thursday is when we brought the boxes home. Since then I have been looking through all the photo albums. I have so much to sort through. Definitely not complaining! It’s funny how life works sometimes. The lesson I learned in this is, no matter how attached you are to some”thing”, it does NOT define you as a person. Sure I would have missed all the photos but at the same time, I kept on living.

Ah yes that is the question. A perfect opportunity to get your groove on presents itself to you but you do not take the bait right away. Is it pride? Maybe your own morality? Perhaps you would like more than the occasional romp? Maybe you are craving intimacy. Whatever the case is, something is making you question this seemingly easy opportunity to get your freak on.

On that note, you take a step back and consider the pros and cons.

Pros

The chemistry between the both of you is intense at times.

You get along well. Find the same things funny and can talk about anything.

This person makes an effort to make plans with you. In the near future and at times months later.

Single and quite available.

Cons

The person is 6 years younger than you.

They are still “finding their way”.

They do not have a place of their own.

Good relationship material if you were in your early 20’s. Or is that #1 again?

Both pros and cons have 4 points. Which ones mean the most is what matters. I guess the bigger question is how much do you value the friendship? If you do not value it so much then going for just sex should be easy. Even though the other person may get attached. If you do treasure this friendship then keeping it platonic seems like the logical thing to do. Easy to say when you are craving a roll in the hay.

Most have us have been through some kind of heartbreak. If you have not yet, it is only a matter of time. Sorry to burst your bubble. It is just a part of life. Sometimes if happens more to some than others. This does not seem very motivational right now, I know. If this is your first time going through a heartbreak, the way you deal with it makes all the difference.

First of all, acknowledge it! Do not deny what transpired. Whether it was your fault or not. After you acknowledgement, you will be ready to go through the other set of emotions. If you don’t you really won’t be able to move on completely. In the beginning, find ways and things to build yourself up again. For me it is music. I think I have a soundtrack for every emotion hahaha. If I could sing, I would make my own damn songs and sing them myself. Alas I can not, so I leave it up to the artists and songs that relate to what I am going through at the time. My list of songs are more suited for women at times. Why wouldn’t they be since I am a woman. Here are some song you might want to add to your ipod/MP3 and make a playlist for yourself. Feel free to comment and add your own selections.

It’s been a minute or two since I have updated my blog. So here I am again. It is the last day of summer and that means new shows are on television this week. Tonight being a big night. There are shows like Heroes, CSI Miami, House and Dancing with the Stars. I have seen all of these shows in the past. I can not say I watch a lot of TV now.

The only show that really interest me is CSI Miami. Last season it ended with the viewers not knowing if Eric was dead or not. I think I speak for a lot of women out there when I say, if Eric is dead there is no reason for me to keep watching. Yea I’m superficial in this case. He’s sexy. With the previews of this new season, CBS made it look like the show would be going back in time. Showing us how they all became the team they are today. I hope that doesn’t mean Eric will not be in some kind of coma for a period of time. Anything like that would just piss me off haha.

As for Dancing With The Stars, I don’t think I’m very interested in this cast. Mya should do well because of her background. Kelly Osborn might surprise everyone. Macy Gray is the wild card. Simply because of her spastic nature. You never know what you are going to get with her.

There is something on TV for almost everyone tonight. If new episodes of reality shows and sitcoms don’t float your boat. There is always Monday night football. The Colts are in Miami to play the Dolphins. Enjoy your night!
