Book Under Review

A Member of the Family by Cesar Millan

I’m still on the hunt for my first dog. Before getting one, I’d like to be as informed as I possibly can. Since it’s been hard to find a Havanese breeder in my area I’m most likely going to take the adoption route. I’m a huge fan of the show, “Dog Whisperer”. It features dog trainer Cesar Millan. He goes house to house and rehabilitates humans for the most part. Yes, humans. Most of the “problem dogs” learn their behaviour from their owners. They lack leadership. Cesar believes that everything is energy. Your energy will reflect how your dog will behave.

He has a few books out there now but I chose to start with, A Member of the Family. I’m still in the middle of reading it but so far it’s great. If you’ve watched his show then you will love this book. It’s like an extention of what his show is about. Takes you through a process. Makes you think about all the things that come with owning a dog. Then finding the right one for you and your family. How to introduce your new pet to your home. Puppies, adult dogs, feeding, health care and more.

Whether you are thinking of getting a dog or you already have one, I suggest you read the book from front to back. Even if you think you know a certain subject already, you can always learn more.

So far it’s a must read and I can’t put it down!Smile

Old Habits Die Hard

New York Post Cartoon

This was posted in today’s edition of the New York Post. When you read and see the cartoon think about what first comes to your mind.

Is it:

A: A parody of the chimpanzee that made headlines when it went burzirk on Monday in Connecticut.

or

B: A racist statement, comparing the president to a chimp.

If you chose A, you would be correct. Well in a sense you would be right. According to the New York Post that’s what it was supposed to mean and they are standing by it. However, I’m pretty sure most people would have went with B. Black people have a history of being compared to monkeys. Not just in the good old USA but all over the world. Might I add, a long history at that. Most of us are conditioned to think of this as a racist stab in the back to the black race.

Well known civil rights activist Al Sharpton called the cartoon, “troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys.”This is inappropriate and should not be looked at as a joke. There are better ways of making fun of someone other than associating the person with something so negative.

The Meaning Of Valentine’s Day, To Me

happy-valentines.jpg Some may call it a commercial holiday, some lavish in the gifts they expect to get. I’m kind of in the middle. Like every other holiday, it has become very commercial. Just a reason for you to go out and buy something. On the other hand, a gift can be more than something expensive. The perfect Valentine’s day for me is when it’s spent honoring those we love. From our mates, family, friends and pets.

If I happen to have a significant other then I love anything that comes from the heart. It can be dinner made by you. Or a series of little favours you do all day. Anything that you think would make me smile and feel loved is satisfying to me.

The point is to love and show love all year round. I used to hate being alone on V-day for years! That’s because one of my grand parents past away on V-day. Now I take a moment on the 14TH to remember him and to show at least one person that I care and love them.

I hope you all have a fabulous Valentine’s day this year and remember to love if you want to be loved yourself.

Stop Adding to the Fire

Doctored Rihanna Photo

This is not a real photo of the battered Rihanna. It was doctored and is now being sent to your friends and their friends and their friends. You get my point. Stop sending out this fictitious picture! If you’re going to send it, at least inform your friends that it’s a fake. This is something I really can’t stand. The media and people in general, making up stories and claiming false truths. Haven’t you ever played the game telephone as a child? You know how it ends up. The first person starts off telling the second person a sentence or phrase. By the time it gets to the last person in the circle, the phrase ends up being something completely different. We can’t say what happen for sure that night between Rihanna and Chris Brown.

Fact: Rihanna did get her face busted.

That’s the only thing about this incident that is fact. We all know Chris most likely did bust up her face.

The story thus far is, Miss Robin Fenty (a.k.a. Rihanna) got upset after explicit messages were text-ed to Mr. Brown from another female. While arguing, she told him to bring her home. She got on her phone and made a fake phone call. Saying he’s driving her home now and have the police waiting. Allegedly that’s what set it off for him. In his rant he claimed he was going to kill her. That’s where the initial charge of issuing a threat comes from. At the moment, she’s supposed to be cooperating with the L.A. police and Chris Brown is in Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel. No one has confirmed that but they did say that his friends were staying there. Who are these “friends” of his? I don’t know. No names have been mentioned.

Instead of taking sides in a matter that does not even involve you, look at this objectively. I will admit there are a small percent of women who really should get bitched slapped. (I’ll probably get some flack for that I’m sure.) Just because a woman does things to provoke a beat down does not mean it’s still right. This kind of abuse does not “just happen”. There is always a history of some form of abuse. Sometimes all it takes is a few signs. The problem is, when you’re int it, you usually don’t see it. Especially if it’s the first time going through it. There were obviously some jealousy issues from both parties. Being 19 and 21 is hard enough when you’re not famous. Relationships are usually full of drama when you’re that young. (Sadly for some, it never changes-God bless their souls.)

The truth will come out in time. I only hope that Chris pays for whatever he did as any other citizen would. Take the lead and make something positive out if it. As for Rihanna, she needs to have a sit down with Mary. Yup, Mary J. Blige. She’s gone through it all and back. Rihanna has a Bajan family. If anything, they can knock some sense into her. We bajans don’t play!

Grammy Show

It’s been a while since I have had the chance to just sit down and watch TV. After watching the Grammy awards Sunday night, I have to say that they are a lot better than they used to be. For one, the acknowledgement of hip hop & rap music took a long time. Now that, it is here to say, you can not deny it. Music is music. No matter what the genre. A certain type of music may resonate more with you than it would me. That does not mean that it’s crap or not. When they combined two or more artists it only reinforces what I just said.

Jennifer Hudson was amazing. The courage it took for her to come out and sing is inspiring. While still in a grieving process, Miss Hudson is taking one day at a time and moving forward.

I have a side note. The first dress she was wearing. What the hell was that?! I have lots of love for this girl but whoa! The top part looked like paper towels stuck to her chest. This isn’t the first time she’s worn something that did nothing for her either. I know these people have stylist. Sometimes I don’t get it. It’s not for me to get either. I’m not the one that chose that dress or wore it but, come on. I can’t be the only one thinking this. Right?
