5 Part Series: Oprah A Modern Day Prophet
Introduction
The Power of O! Millions of people around the world watch, read and listen to everything Oprah Winfrey has to say. In this 5 part series we will take a look at how Ms. Winfrey is a modern day prophet to so many. Each week I will post on one or two of her episodes for the next 5 weeks. How will the topics relate to you? Are you a devoted Oprah fan? Do you believe she’s the devil? A false prophet? Let’s take a look at the word prophet and its’ meanings. In no way am I regarding Oprah as a prophet in traditional religious terms. Like many words in the English language, the word “prophet” has more than one meaning. The definition I’m referring to is as follows.
Prophet: A person regarded as, or claiming to be, an inspired teacher or leader.
Think about it. Many people are inspired by the ideas and ideals she presents on her television show, magazine, XM radio shows and website. Almost everything she presents or becomes a part of turns to gold. If you’re featured on her TV show, you are pretty much guaranteed to get a whole lot of good come your way. When Oprah unveils her favorite things, ever notice how hard it is to buy one for yourself? It happen to me recently. Maya Angelou’s book, “A letter to my daughter”.![]()
Starting in 2009, Oprah will be chairman to the network OWN. The Oprah Winfrey Network. A 50/50 venture between Harpo and Discovery communications. A channel devoted to help improve the lives of everyone.
A quote from Oprah Winfrey: ”Fifteen years ago, I wrote in my journal that one day I would create a television network, as I always felt my show was just the beginning of what the future could hold. For me, the launch of The Oprah Winfrey Network is the evolution of the work I’ve been doing on television all these years and a natural extension of my show.”
